On recent Windows 11 update my Snipping Tool started to crash. When I used it to take a screenshot it crashed always after I clicked the thumbnail image at the bottom of the screen. Windows Event Viewer didn’t provide any clues about the cause, which left me a little confused.
I checked the Snipping Tool settings, but I had all toggles turned off and it didn’t have any built-in tools to fix the issue. After googling a while I found out that you can actually repair and reset these Windows apps quite easily.
Repair and Reset App
Windows has unified app repair function available at Apps settings page. Open up Apps settings page (win key + type in apps settings), search for snipping tool, click … button and select advanced options.
Advanced settings page has two buttons to repair and reset application. I decided to run both of these and it fixed the issue. No more crashing Snipping Tool and back to easy life with print screening!
